Storytelling originated as performance, and performing stories for each other helped create human civilization and has served a critical cultural function throughout the ages. New technologies have always threatened to wipe out that tradition (remember, Socrates thought writing was a bad idea) but with each wave of technology it persists.At a festival celebrating the best of our modern culture and also exploring the newest technological innovations, it is fitting to discuss how one of our oldest art forms, theater, can adopt new technologies while continuing to provide the essential cultural service of bringing people together to share stories.I'm excited to talk about how the new medium of mixed reality can be used to create experiences that combine the excitement of immersive theatre And the magic of computer generated imagery, and allow remote audiences to be present together in fictional worlds
